Where it works

These are one-wall designs for rooms that can take a jolt: a playroom, a powder room, a dining room with plain walls elsewhere, a hallway that needs a reason to look up. Tigers & Dragons on blush pink is the nursery and playroom choice. The Tiger Magnolia Mural is a single unbroken picture and wants a full wall in a sitting room or a stairwell. Painted Bridges and Diagonal Plaid are for a home office or a teenager's room. Cabbage Flower, rosettes on lavender with teal-cut leaves, is the softest of the five and works across a whole bedroom.

Picking between the designs

Two are figurative, two are abstract, one is floral. The tigers, in Tigers & Dragons and the mural, share a palette of vermillion, jade and mustard but differ in scale: the wallpaper repeats a small motif with air around it, the mural climbs the whole wall. Painted Bridges and Diagonal Plaid are both bands of translucent colour, one marbled into flame-stitch peaks, the other crossing at forty-five degrees and mixing new colours where they overlap. Cabbage Flower is a pop print rather than a watercolour, concentric rings of flat colour. All five use the same six colours, so they can be mixed room to room without argument.
