Choosing fruit wallpaper
Where it works
Fruit belongs in kitchens, pantries, breakfast rooms and the loo off the hall, the rooms where a bit of wit is welcome. Citrus Bough, where the lemons are the only saturated colour, and Golden Pomegranate, crowned gold fruit gathered in twos and threes on ivory, are light enough for a small kitchen. The Morris Fruit Light on flecked oatmeal is the one for a dining room that wants a period pattern. Pear Plinth, a pear, a tomato and a French horn each perched on its own engraved plinth, is for the downstairs loo or a study, somewhere people will stand close and read it.
Picking between the designs
Pick the fruit. Citrus: Citrus Bough, Lemon Branch, Orange Grove in sepia line. Pomegranates: Golden Pomegranate, Earthy Pomegranate, Pomegranate Branch with two birds on deep teal, and the Morris pair, Fruit Light on cream and Fruit Dark on charcoal. Berries and orchard: Raspberry Thicket, Blueberry Branch, Painted Cherries, the Pear Orchard mural, Quince Branch with yellow quinces beside a cream rose. Then the ground: nearly all are cream, so the dark ones stand out, Fruit Dark and Pomegranate Perch on black, Pomegranate Branch on teal. Inked Plums, brushed in india ink on kraft, is the one with no colour in the fruit at all.
