How much Wallpaper do I need?

You need a tape measure for this, and ideally someone to hold the far end.

  • Measure the height and the width of each wall you plan to paper, corner to corner.
  • Put those numbers into the tool below. It tells you which panel height to order and how many panels. Each panel is 19 inches wide, and the total already has 20% added for waste and for matching the pattern at the seams.
  • The tool only works for repeating patterns. If it's a mural you're after, contact our team and we'll size it with you.

Write everything down before you leave the room. Then measure the height again, at the tallest point.

Questions about the wallpaper calculator

How does the wallpaper calculator work?

You give it your wall height and the width of up to four walls. Each width is divided into 19 inch panels and rounded up to a whole number. The walls get added together, and 20 percent goes on top for trimming and for lining up the pattern. It picks the panel height as well. Our panels come in 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 foot heights, and it takes the shortest one that still reaches your ceiling.

How many panels do I need for a 10 by 9 foot wall?

A wall 10 feet wide is 120 inches, which takes 7 panels once you round up. Add the 20 percent and you're at 9. A 9 foot ceiling is too tall for the 8 foot panel, so you go up to 10 feet. The order is 9 panels at 10 feet.

Why does the calculator add 20 percent?

Every drop gets trimmed at the ceiling and at the skirting, and a patterned paper has to slide up or down so the design lines up across each seam. That's what the extra is for. There's usually a bit left over afterwards, too, which comes in handy if a panel gets scuffed and needs replacing.

Which panel height should I choose?

Measure from the floor to the ceiling at the tallest point of the wall, then take the next panel height up. So a wall of 8 feet 4 inches needs 10 foot panels. An 8 foot panel would stop 4 inches short of the ceiling. Taller than 12 feet? Contact us before you order.

Do I need to subtract doors and windows?

It is safer not to. A door only cuts out part of a drop. The pattern still has to line up above it and below it, and those offcuts are what save you when a trim goes wrong. The exception is a window that fills most of the wall. Take that one out of the width.

Is the amount the same for peel and stick and traditional?

Yes. LUXE Traditional is 19 inches wide, and so are Peel and Stick and LUXE Peel and Stick, in the same heights. Change your mind about the material and the panel count stays put.
