Art Deco Wallpaper

Choosing Art Deco wallpaper

Where it works

Deco is a hallway, bar and bathroom style, anywhere with a mirror and a hard floor. Navy Deco and Modern Arches are the ones for a cloakroom or a corridor; the arches interlock top to bottom and pull the eye up. Scallop Fans on pebbled off-white and Blue Arches on sky blue are light enough for a bathroom. Gold Grid, dusty pink and olive blocks outlined in raised gold, and Gold Circles, metallic discs on olive, want a dining room or a dressing room where the gold can catch a lamp.

Picking between the designs

Start with the shape. Arches first: Navy Deco, Modern Arches and Blue Arches. Fans: Scallop Fans, Purple Fans, and Scallop Tiles with its hot pink and teal. Circles and blocks: Gold Grid, Gold Circles, Slate Circles with pointed lenses and fine line fans over slate blue and stone. Then how much gold: Navy Deco and Gold Grid use it as a pinstripe; Gold Circles uses it as the subject; Scallop Fans and Blue Arches have none. The navy designs are the period ones, close to a 1930s cinema; the sky-blue and olive designs are Deco shapes in modern colours and sit more easily in a plain room.
