Choosing beige wallpaper
Where it works
Beige gets called safe, but the good ones aren't flat. Run your eye along a wall of Plaster Wash and you'll catch chalk white, blush and slate blue flaking back over warm render, with trowel marks you'd swear you could feel. Light matters here. Warm beiges can look pinkish in strong west sun and a bit muddy facing north, so tape a sample up and check it at noon and again after dark. In a bedroom, Taupe Blossom keeps its contrast so low that from the bed it reads almost like linen, easy next to pale oak and white bedding. Want a little more line? Orange Grove draws citrus branches in sepia on cream, and the fruit only shows once you're up close.
Picking between the designs
If you want a finish more than a pattern, start with the plaster looks. Plaster Wash, Speckled Plaster and Gold Clouds have nothing to line up at the seams, which makes them the forgiving pick for a first install. Dried Blossom and Trailing Rose are softer again. So is Ladybird Sprigs, though you'll only spot its little red ladybirds once you're standing right next to it. Then there's Sand Poppies: coral and deep red poppies over khaki scrollwork, at its best above an old wood floor. Got a sofa or rug that's already loud? Stay with the plasters. Room mostly white and oak? Go for the poppies. Village Map is its own thing, a river valley of cottages and rowing boats that guests will stop and read.

Most of these are also in neutral wallpaper. The lighter grounds continue in cream wallpaper, and a few of the taupes, Ladybird Sprigs and Watercolor Blossom among them, sit in brown wallpaper as well.
