The designer

How do you want to feel here

Theresa Butler asks that first. Before furniture. Before color.

She wants your routines. She wants to know which of the things you already own you'd never let go of.

She was a nurse anesthetist before this, and did medical mission work, including a trip to Ghana. The Atlanta studio has been open since 2019. Four of them now.

She also gives rooms away. Designed and furnished start to finish, for people who never asked. Caregivers, mostly. People who've spent years at the back of their own list.

The collection

Every one of these started as a painting

Theresa paints. Each pattern here was an original in her studio first.

She takes it from nature and from her travels. From things made by hand. From the small details that make a house feel like home.

The painting is what you're hanging.

The community install

A Place for Bethany

Every collection here comes with a room that isn't for sale.

Theresa's is going to A Place for Bethany in Decatur, Georgia. They run programs for people with developmental disabilities.

She designed a house for one of their board members. They called her about this afterward.

"Hope, stability, and support aligns with thoughtfully designed spaces which restore dignity, inspire healing, and strengthen communities."

The room and the pattern are being picked with them. Photos when the paper's up.

About the partnership

One of five, this year.

Every year, William Morris Wallpaper invites five independent designers to develop original wallpaper lines under their own names. Every partnership includes an install in a community space the designer chooses. We donate the wallpaper. The designer funds the install. The patterns live alongside our catalogue. The work lives wherever the designer wants it to.
