The designer

Never that precious.

Christina Simon came to interiors through fine art, and that background still shapes the way she sees a room. She starts with color, material and composition rather than a particular style, an approach she brought to Christina Simon Studio, founded in Austin in 2023 after more than a decade designing art-driven homes. 

She thinks about a room as a composition almost a painting: the balance of shapes and texture, where the eye goes and what it finds when it gets there. She plays with contrast- a piece of importance pairs next to something with a sense of humor.  Vintage, new commissions and things made by hand, all in the same room. 

Considered, in her words, but never so precious that you can't put your feet up.

The collection

Pomegranates and pitcher plants.

A lobster. An oyster. Pomegranates, pitcher plants, passion flowers, pods. A tiny ladybug hidden in one of them.

Some of these patterns fill a wall edge to edge — underwater scenes, sea flowers that grow nowhere, lily pads and aquatic plants crowding the whole surface. Others give you one motif and a lot of empty paper around it. They're built to hang in the same house.

The colorways go earthy, tobacco and umber and parchment, or they go loud: cobalt and fuchsia against midnight. Between those, a lacquer red with forest green, and a sea palette of abyss navy, ultramarine and coral orange.

Christina's is going to SAFE Alliance in Austin, which works with survivors of abuse and family violence. She's worked with them before.

The room and the pattern are being chosen with SAFE. We'll put it here when the paper is up.

About the partnership

Every year, William Morris Wallpaper invites five independent designers to develop original wallpaper lines under their own names. Every partnership includes an install in a community space the designer chooses. We donate the wallpaper. The designer funds the install. The patterns live alongside our catalogue. The work lives wherever the designer wants it to.
