Choosing from the Hearth & Home collection
Where it works
These five were drawn for the rooms a family actually lives in: a kitchen, a mudroom, a bedroom, a hallway. Woven Check looks like fabric pinned to the wall and belongs in a kitchen or a utility room. Indigo Cardinal on flax linen and Bee Meadow on olive-gold suit a bedroom or a study. Coral Thistle, painted in gentle columns on blue-grey, is the gentle one, for a landing or a nursery. Harvest Vine, russet artichokes in a light Arts and Crafts line on cream, works in a dining room or along a hallway.
Picking between the designs
The five sort by how the mark was made. Woven: the check, every square edged with visible stitch. Block-printed: the cardinal, with the roughness of an old textile. Drawn in line: Bee Meadow and Harvest Vine, cream line on olive-gold and russet on cream. Painted: Coral Thistle, thistle blooms climbing sage stems in a loose stripe. All five sit on quiet grounds, cream, flax, olive-gold, blue-grey, so they take colour from the room rather than dictating it. If you want two in the same house, the check and the cardinal share their indigo, and Bee Meadow and Harvest Vine share their line.
