Fish Wallpaper

Sixteen fish wallpapers: hand-drawn trout in rows on cream, painted in rust, olive and dusty pink or in watercolour rainbow, and koi with gold and bronze scales gliding over slate, petrol and marbled grey water. Two families, river and pond, and nothing that looks like a cartoon.

Choosing fish wallpaper

Where it works

Fish belong in bathrooms first, then cloakrooms, boot rooms and children's bedrooms. The koi, Koi Pond, Golden Koi and Marbled Koi, carry metallic gold in their scales and want a room with a mirror or a window to catch it. The trout, Speckled Trout, Brown Trout and Painted Trout, are drier and more countryish, right for a boot room or the loo off a kitchen. Rainbow Trout, watercolour fish in green, blue, pink and yellow, is the one for a child's room.

Picking between the designs

River or pond. The trout swim in horizontal rows, each row facing the opposite way from the one above, so the wall reads as a steady pattern from across the room; the difference between them is colour, brown and ochre in Speckled Trout, rust and dusty pink in Painted Trout, olive and steel blue in River Trout. The koi drift in all directions across water drawn as ripples, lily pads or marbling, so the wall reads as a picture; Koi Ripples adds concentric rings and one shadowy fish under the surface, and Koi Pond adds fanned lily pads in fine radiating line. Then the ground: cream for all the trout, grey and petrol for the koi. Etched Goldfish, Silver Shoal and Ocean Shoal are the small-fish designs, shoals rather than individuals, for a smaller wall.
