Choosing dark academia wallpaper

Where it works

This is a study colourway, and the rooms that suit it are the ones with books, a desk and a reading chair: a home office, a snug, a dining room that doubles as a library, a bedroom with dark timber. Peony Bouquet and Midnight Bouquet, blooms on solid black with antique-gold scrollwork or old-master shading, are the full version. Teal Protea and Cacao Pods, botanicals on deep navy, are a shade less theatrical and go in a living room. Dusk Meadow climbs from the bottom of the panel, so give it the full height of the wall.

Picking between the designs

The choice is between flowers and foliage. Flowers: Peony Bouquet, Midnight Bouquet, Painted Bouquet, Midnight Peony, Blush Bouquet, Night Garden, all painted blooms on black or near-black. Foliage: Brown Leaves with copper oak leaves and purple grapes, Copper Foliage, Acorn Thistle, Cacao Pods, Teal Protea, where the drama comes from the leaf shapes rather than colour. Between them sit the meadows on distressed teal plaster, Dusk Meadow, Wild Daisy and Wildflower Meadow, which are the lightest way into the look. White Anemone is the compromise: black ground, pale sage and pewter foliage, white flowers, and no red anywhere.
